Zydefunk will give you a taste of what bandleader, Charlie Wooton, experienced musically growing up in Lafayette, Louisiana. Taking you from the Lala in the backwoods to Mardi Gras in the streets of New Orleans. Take an exhilarating trip with ZydeFunk through Louisiana and beyond with bass-driven funk, with hints of Latin, reggae, jazz and blues!
In the last 5 years Charlie has traveled the world with various artist from Louisiana mentioned below, he is now ready to take Zydefunk on this journey.
Zydefunk Mission Statement!
Zydefunk was formed while Charlie was living in Atlanta missing the music from home, Louisiana! It started out as a project playing in Cajun Restaurants and Blues Bars around the area. As the band played more and more getting a positive response Zydefunk soon started playing bigger venues, multiple festivals and getting TV coverage.
ZYDEFUNK's musical influences were that of which Charlie experienced growing up in Louisiana. Artist like Neville Brothers, The Meters, Sonny Landreth, Michael Doucet (Beausoli), Rockin' Dopsie, Wild Tchoupitoulas, Buckwheat Zydeco, Cheif Monk Boudreaux and Chubby Carrier to name a few.
In 2010 Charlie moved back to Louisiana. Now living in New Orleans he quickly sought out these artist that were such a great influences on him and Zydefunk. Since the move he has been blessed to have played with each of the artist mentioned above.
Zydefunk's goal is to bring each of these experiences Charlie had with these artist and how they influenced the band to you and possibly bring one or two of them to a Festival or Theater in your city.
This has already been a success with Chief Monk Boudreaux, Cyril Neville, Zigaboo and Rockin' Dopsie Jr. being featured at Charlie Wooton's JazzFest Allstar Show 2 years in a row and Dopsie Jr. being the featured guest with ZF at the Pensacola Crawfish Festival this year!
Zydefunk is confident if this idea is handled with respect and care it will be very successful. It will accomplish their goal of bringing all Louisiana Grooves together, mixing Zydeco, Cajun, Second Line, Swamp Pop and NOLA Funk!
Also to spread Louisisana's native music around the world like it had never been done before!
Zydefunk has proven to be a consistent and growing draw. Some of their festivals include: Atlanta Midtown Music Festival, Bele Chere Festival, 420 Fest., Pensacola Crawfish Festival, Ft. Lauderdale River Walk Blues and Music Festival, Lowcountry Music Festival, Montreaux Festival, Bonterra Blues bash and Clematis by Night to name a few. Zydefunk has been featured on Twice C.N.N. World News and multiple of times on Fox TV’s "God Day Atlanta".
